Gerard de Pender, Senior Product Manager at Ricoh Europe, comments: “The last five years witnessed a significant drop in volumes at centralised printing departments and reprographic companies especially. It was caused by the trend towards decentralised printing with very compact wide-format MFPs like the MP W2400 and MP W3600. Production customers are now looking for affordable, smaller-scale alternatives without compromising on productivity or features. The new MP W7140, Ricoh's entry into the wide-format production market, is specifically targeted at this type of customers. They can opt for an embedded or an external controller, depending on their specific needs. We are confident that the Aficio™MP W5100/MP W7140 will firmly establish Ricoh’s presence in the mid- and high-range wide format production.”
The Aficio™MP W5100/MP W7140 copy, print and scan at a high resolution of 600 dpi both in colour and B/W. Their warm-up time is less than two minutes, and their first output speed at A1 format is less than ten seconds. They handle paper formats between 182 x 210 mm and 914 x 15,000 mm (MP W5100) and 914 x 30,000 mm (MP W7140). Two standard roll feeders and a one-sheet bypass tray can be enhanced with an extra two optional roll feeders or 2 x 250-sheet paper cassette for maximum input. High capacity is combined with space-saving design: the machine is compact and full-front operable. Flexible layout options include multi-, double and rear stackers. An inline folder will be available for both models in the near future.
Ricoh’s embedded controller supports PostScript™ and offers the same workflow as other Ricoh devices. It allows scanning to e-mail, folder or document server in one click, a practical feature in departmental environments. PFP and CRD users can choose the external controller to manage jobs, and to preview and edit scan results. The external controller supports genuine AutoCAD® formats like DWG, DXF, but also CGM and VIC (optional). In heavy production environments, the MP W7140’s detachable scanner option allows several people to perform tasks at the machine simultaneously.
In line with other Ricoh products, the Aficio™MP W5100/MP W7140 are straightforward to use with their intuitive wide colour LCD panel and simplified screen function. The screen also displays animated instructions should a paper jam occur. Thumbnail views and previews prevent mistakes and increase efficiency.
Furthermore, the Aficio™MP W5100/MP W7140 live up to customers’ security demands. Digital data scanned to e-mail are protected with S/MIME, and for the machines’ hard drive a new data encryption unit is available. User authentication by password ensures safety against unauthorised use, and the Data Overwrite Security system prevents confidential information from being accessed or reconstructed.
The Aficio™MP W5100/MP W7140 are the latest additions to Ricoh’s wide format product range. Ricoh currently manufactures one of the world’s most extensive line-ups of copiers, printers, scanners and multifunctional devices, as well as software solutions.
